Smell Faint.

Stem Scarlet to orange red, yellowing slightly towards the base. Hollow. 
Cap Conical/bell-shaped, can open to convex or flat with age. Scarlet to orange/red/yellow. 
Flesh Yellow to red. 
Habitat Open woodland, grasslands, lawn and roadsides. 
Taste Not strong but a colourful addition to any meal. 
Possible Confusion The Blackening Wax Cap, Hygrocybe nigrescens and the Conical Wax Cap, Hygrocybe conica but both blacken on cutting or with age. 
Description Occasional but highly visible with its scarlet colour.
