Smell Faint. 
Gills Pale yellow sponge-like pores, can be a bit grey/brown. 
Spore Print Grey/brown. Subfusiform to ellipsoid. 
Stem Starting white becoming darker to pale yellow and covered in small dark spots. Has a ring with a brown/purple underside. 
Cap Convex flattening with age. Chestnut brown and 'shiny'. 
Flesh White. Soft. Does not stain when cut. 
Habitat Growing under conifers. 
Taste Good but should be cooked and the slimy cuticle from the cap removed. Better when dried. 
Possible Confusion Suillus granulatus which has yellow flesh, a lighter, redder cap and no ring but is edible. 
Description Very common.
